Does owning some nice wicker porch furniture mean I am living the good life?

February 27th, 2010

Nope. It’s who is sitting on it that determines that. I’d sit with you – so yeah, you are. :)

I have a garden swing/hammock the paint is flaking off revealing rusty bare metal.?

February 27th, 2010

Is there anyway of halting this deterioration using some sort of fixant/ primer and then using something such as Hammerite to repaint. It is very large and fiddly so stripping it is really out of the question.

just rub it down and hammerite it

How do I get rid of shed smell on my garden furniture? Shed is waterproof but not haeated?

February 27th, 2010

Its a wooden shed. How can I stop damp smell without using electric appliance or harsh chemicals?
Jon
Wooden furniture, I oil it before its stored

Lemon juice and water will kill the odor from your garden furniture (you do not say what material it is). Also you can place a bowl of vinegar and water inside the shed.

What uses can freshly cut wood,eg Oak,be put to without the need for drying?

February 27th, 2010

Can I use it for all outdoor uses eg fencing, garden furniture, gates, outdoor furniture etc.
I am trying to set up a timber importing business but cannot afford to wait to have the timber dried.

Sorry, but you’ll find that the market for green lumber is rather limited, unless you plan on brokering logs to mills.

Also, I think you’ll find that most outdoor furniture, that is made of wood, was made of kiln dried wood.

Good luck…

how do I renew fabric patio chairs?

February 27th, 2010

The fabric is bolted to the chairs.

Try and rip them off. Or turning the chairs upside down and undoing the bolts. Then you can use the old fabric as a pattern to reupholster the chairs, and you can even spray paint it with krylon or rustoleum spray paint! Hope that helps!

How much does it cost to refurbish teak patio furniture?

February 27th, 2010

I have been asked to refurbish my neighbors teak patio set (1 octogonal table and 4 chairs w/slats). I have refinished loads of wood furniture before but never teak. I know how to clean and seal it but just want some kind of a ball park figure on how much I should charge.

Just power wash it with deck cleaner and wipe it down with teak oil. Do it yourself $75.00 Contractor $300

can I dye the glider chair cushions?

February 27th, 2010

Depends on what they’re made of. Nylon, cotton, linen, wool, silk are all dyeable at home. Polyester or acrylic, no.
You might be able to use a thin fabric paint on them, but I’d sure experiment with that before committing.

see: http://www.dharmatrading.com

Oh, you only want to dye the covers, not the cushioning material, so the cushions will need to be taken apart.

Glider that will fit larger person?

February 27th, 2010

I am small, but my husband is rather big. He is about 6′2 and 200+. I have been reading reviews of different gliders/rockers and they all say snug fit, or not for larger poeple. If you have one that you know will fit a larger guy please let me know what brand or style it is and a link to it would be awesome.
He is not that fat, he is just built really big. Like really broad shoulders and big bones.
What is the kind you got from Walmart?

Question? Is he fit or fat. My hubby is 247 lbs 6.1 and is fit. He works out all the time and his weight is muscle and he fits just fine in our glider that we got from Wal-Mart. The glider info saying a larger person just means really fat people wont fit in a nicer way
