Are there many people out there that buy things that then need to build the items themselves but dont want to?

July 27th, 2010

I am just enquiring because I have a business that is starting that allows the consumer to purchase most items and then have my company come out and build them for you at a reasonable rate. Examples like childrens swings, outdoor settings, IKEA items, BBQ’s, indoor furniture and more. A lot of people I am sure would rather the quality time with their family as opposed to spending time building items that only frustrate them.

I buy things that need to be put together all the time!!! what i do is let it sit in the hallway until I have a friend say do you need help putting it together.. I do this so I can spend the time with my child! this works for me and good luck on this!!!!

Bobcaygeon: The swing bridge opens

July 25th, 2010

Summer is a really beautiful time in Ontario. I decided to show my European guests a little bit of Ontarios country charm, so we planned an overnight getaway for July 30 and 31, 2008. Just after lunch on July 30, 2008 we started driving east of the city to the charming country town of Port Hope, just about 100 km east of Toronto. Port Hope is a pretty little town of about 16,000, located at the mouth of the Ganaraska River that is a favourite destination of salmon fishermen in the fall. I was there probably 7 or 8 years ago and since then Port Hope has been spruced up considerably. Many new restaurants and boutiques have been opened, and Port Hope has become a favourite getaway destination for city-weary Torontonians.

From here we continued on to Cobourg, another attractive country town just about 10 minutes east of Port Hope. With about 18,000 residents, Cobourg, Ontarios Feel Good Town, is slightly larger which makes it the largest town in Northumberland County. It features stunning Victoria Hall, a classical building dating back to the 1850s that now houses the municipal offices as well as a concert hall and art gallery. The main street features many cute shops and boutiques. From here we walked towards the waterfront and stopped at the King George Inn, a historic hotel that actually used to be the Cobourg Jail until about 10 years ago. In the basement you can still see various jail cells in their original state. Last but not least we strolled to the waterfront where we enjoyed the beautiful marina and had a look at the wide sandy beach of Victoria Park.

Through the rolling hills of Eastern Ontario we made our way to Peterborough where we stopped briefly at the waterfront to admire the preparations for a free concert that was to be held in the evening in the waterfront park. As it was getting late we decided to locate our bed and breakfast, the Shining Waters B&B, just outside Lakefield. Hostess Susan Castle showed us around her 1860s fieldstone farm house that features four beautifully decorated bedrooms. In the evening we had a delicious dinner at Cassis Restaurant in downtown Lakefield where we enjoyed a variety of French delicacies.

After a filling breakfast on a gorgeous morning the next day we explored the expansive grounds surrounding the Shining Waters B&B. These include several kilometers of walking trails as well as a recently renovated barn that has become a popular wedding venue. In the late morning we set off to explore the Kawartha Lakes region. Our first stop was in Buckhorn where a Parks Canada employee explained to us the system of 44 locks that are part of the 386 km Trent-Severn Waterway. At mid-day we reached Bobcaygeon, a beautiful waterfront town where we had a late lunch on the patio of the Waterfront Restaurant, overlooking the serenity of the canal. Next came Fenelon Falls where we connected with two extremely friendly OPP officers that did not mind having their pictures taken with us. Our final stop was in the charming town of Port Perry which beckoned with its quaint shops and restaurants on Queen Street.

Do you know a good website where I can purchase swing canopies?

July 18th, 2010

I have a swing frame, but the canopy and the seat part (all the cloth areas) were destroyed through wear and tear. Is there a website where I can buy ONLY the canopy and seat part for the outdoor swing?

Lots of luck! I looked for 6 months and had no luck. I ended up making my own.

How to clean plastic outdoor toys?

July 14th, 2010

Hi, I have some plastic outdoor toys (ride/push toddler toys, swing, Little Tikes shopping cart, plastic chairs)…what’s the best way to clean them, and does a preserver like Armor-All help? I live in sunny California, mild weather but lots of sunny days. Thank you!

I usually clean that type of stuff with car wash soap or dish soap and water, and a white terry towel to scrub them down with. Works pretty good! If they are hard plastic, armor-all and the like won’t help because it can’t penetrate. Armor-all type things work better on slightly porous, flexible surfaces such as textured, softer-plastic dashboards or vinyl surfaces.

I’d just stick with soap and water, a good washcloth and a brush if necessary.

I am looking to replace the cushion support fabric on an outdoor/patio swing that I purchased from Sears.?

July 9th, 2010

I purchased an outdoor swing from Sears about 3-4 years ago and cannot find any of the paper work. The swing has a greyish, powder finish. The 3 seat single cushion and canopy is off-white & tan with a fern-type leaf pattern. Does anyone know the name of the pattern or how I can contact the manufacturer for a ready made replacement. I’ve thought about having one made but I think it would cost more than the original price of the swing. Maybe a manufactured one will also. If anyone has any suggestions, they would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
I need to replace the support fabric, not the cushion. The cushion and canopy are a little sun faded but still in great shape.

If it were mine, the first thing I would do is see what the support is made up, and how it is attached. If it was screwed on, all I’d do is remove the screws and buy some of the same fabric. Canvas is good.

If it was lapped over and sewn directly to the other surface, I’d call a boat place that advertises canvas repairs, or a camper place, and ask the how much the LABOR would be

I know what you’re going through. A new cushion, alone, was only $10 less tan the whole swing. I just made my own.
